17,137 Pounds (8.5 tons) of Food Donated to the Oktoberfest Castle of Cans

Thank you for participating in the 2016 Susan L. Coleman Castle of Cans at Hickory's Oktoberfest. The food drive was a great success for our entire community. Your donation put us way over the top and allows us to feed more of our neighbors.

2016 collection sites: Bandys High School, Bunker Hill High School, Clyde Campbell Elementary, Challenger Early College High School, Grandview Middle School, Hickory Christian Academy, Hickory Day School, Jacobs Fork Middle School, Maiden Elementary, Maiden Middle School, St. Stephens High School, and Startown Elementary. Also collecting: Carolina Broadway Theatre Company, Focus Newspaper, Habitat ReStore, Hickory Choral Society, Tasteful Beans Coffeehouse, Episcopal Church of the Ascension, and St. Alban's Episcopal Church.

The winner of the elementary school challenge is Ms. Bryan's 3rd grade at Startown Elementary School, donating 7.78 cans per student.

The winner of the middle school challenge is Ms. Alexander's homeroom at Jacob Fork Middle School, donating 8.5 cans per student.

Congratulations to St Stephen's High School for donating the most cans for a high school and the most cans overall - 1,915 pounds.
