Hickory Mayor Hank Guess and Property Owner Tim Cline welcomed eleven new businesses to Downtown Hickory during the Ribbon Cutting held on April 27 at the Harris Arcade, 221 First Avenue NW, in Downtown Hickory.
Built in 1938, the Harris Arcade is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. After many years of vacant deterioration, Mr. Tim Cline purchased and renovated the arcade with shops and offices located on two levels.
Today, the Harris Arcade is home to a variety of small independent businesses. The April 27 Ribbon Cutting served as an Open House for the fine businesses: Elegance Furniture Boutique (shabby chic furniture), Denim & Daisies (clothing and accessories), Splentique Fashion Boutique (apparel and accessories), Glazzy Girls Stained Glass (stained glass artwork, demonstrations, and classes), Etcetera-Etc. (clothing), the Hickory Café (restaurant), Carolina Crafted (candles & gifts), C&C (vintage clothing & furniture), AFLAC office (insurance), smart Art Studio (art studio), and Mike Ogle Watercolours (artist studio).
