Summit Credit Union to Open New Branch and Consolidate Hickory Operations

Summit Credit Union, headquartered in Greensboro, NC, is pleased to announce that it will open a new branch in Hickory on May 9, 2017, to be located at 102 First Avenue NE. At the same time it will close its two existing Hickory branches and consolidate them into the new, much larger, facility.

The Credit Union currently has a branch at 10 3rd Avenue NE and another in the Corning Optical Headquarters at 800 17th Street NW. Both offices will close permanently at the end of business on Friday, May 5, 2017. To facilitate the move, the Credit Union will be closed all day, Monday, May 8, 2017.

The new office will feature drive-through tellers, an ATM, safe deposit boxes, a free coin counter, and a night depository.

The new Hickory branch will also have expanded hours. It will open M-F at 8:30 am and close at 5:00 pm (6:00 pm on Friday). Drive through tellers will open M-F at 7:30 am and close at 5:00 pm (6:00 pm on Friday). The Credit Union will no longer be closed during lunch hours.

"It was the merger of Corning Cable Systems Credit Union that provided us the impetus to build a new, larger branch in Hickory," said Sam Whitehurst, President and CEO of Summit Credit Union. "The new branch will allow us to improve service to our existing members. It also shows our service commitment to our existing business partners and our overall commitment to growth and expansion in the Hickory area."

Once the dust settles from the move, the Credit Union plans to offer CO-OP Shared Branch Network services to members of participating credit unions. This means that members from credit unions other than Summit CU will be able to make deposits, loan payments, and cash checks at the new facility.

A Grand Opening Celebration is set for June 16, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. to welcome members, newcomers, and local businesses to the new office.
