City of Hickory Installs Electric Vehicle Charging Station on Union Square

Over the next 5 years, virtually every automobile manufacturer plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid or battery electric vehicle. The City of Hickory will supply the charging station infrastructure to support this industry change.

The City of Hickory received a grant to provide citizens and travelers with capabilities to charge their Electric Vehicles (EV) free of charge on Union Square.

Motorists may visit Downtown Hickory and connect to the EV Charging Unit located on the west end of Union Square. While their EV is charging, they may spend the hours dining and shopping in downtown Hickory.

Parking spaces on either side of the charging unit will allow two EVs to charge at the same time. The DuraStation's design offers Level II charging, which is capable of reducing charge time from 12-18 hours to 4-8 hours, with service needs of 208-240VAC at 40A, assuming a 24kWh battery and a full-cycle charge.

The installation of the EV charging station will be completed within the next few months according to the City of Hickory.
